The Bone Whisperer: The Adventures of George and Flanagan, Book 2 is a mystery novel for young adults and preteens written by D.S. Allen. George just suffered through the longest four weeks ever as he waited for Katie to finally finish being grounded by her parents and Dougie to get motivated about their adventure again. Now, however, they were all assembled and ready to enter the quarry and find the pirate’s treasure. Each of them had grand plans for the riches they would discover, but those dreams were abruptly shattered. First by the new metal gate barring access to the grounds, and second by the earth-moving machines that came trundling along the path. One driver got out and delivered the bad news. Tam McMaster, a local businessman, had bought the council land surrounding the quarry and would be turning it into a housing estate. They were trespassing and were ordered to leave. The three of them were horrified by the news. They couldn’t help but think of all the wildlife that lived there and wonder how those animals could possibly survive. Finding the treasure now became an imperative. They’d use those riches to buy the rights to the land and preserve it.
D.S. Allen’s mystery novel for young adults and preteens, The Bone Whisperer, is filled with action, adventure, and the camaraderie of good friends. This fast-paced tale will delight adventure lovers of all ages as the three treasure hunters brave parental censure, greedy businessmen, and a rather terrifying network of underground tunnels to find their treasure and save the land from development. Along the way, George comes to understand a bit more about his gift, which seems to have been passed on by his mom and Nan, who both read tea leaves. While this is the second book in Allen’s series, the author gives enough background information for this novel to be read as a stand-alone. That said, I would strongly recommend reading the first book, The Headmaster’s Cave, before The Bone Whisperer. They’re both marvelous reads, and you won’t want to miss out on that first book. The Bone Whisperer: The Adventures of George and Flanagan, Book 2 is most highly recommended.
